Our 4th Event: The Security-Economic Nexus in the Indo-Pacific

We at MOVE 78 are focused on championing businesses and products that advance digital access to Financial Services, Health, Education and Digital Identity to help empower individuals, families and communities, and alleviate global poverty. A large part of how effective and swiftly Digital Inclusion will become ubiquitous in Asia is directly correlated to the larger context of the fluctuating geo-political landscape within the Indo-Pacific.

With this context in mind, we were pleased to hold our fourth event in Singapore, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce on November 12 to highlight this broader focus. Our esteemed speaker for this event was Major General Joaquin F. Malavet, USMC (retired) and the fire-side chat format was moderated by Frank T. Troise of SoHo Capital LLC.

The American Chamber's auditorium was filled to capacity with members and guest-professionals for the unique opportunity to hear MajGen Malavet share his insights. The major theme throughout the talk was MajGen Malavet's strong encouragement for business leaders to adopt a mindset of 'Corporate National Security' when conducting strategic planning for the years ahead, including expansion within the region. Similar to incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility in planning, incorporating a 'Corporate National Security' focus would enable a trusting and reliable ecosystem to thrive, thereby ensuring continued competitive advantage for US and allied economic interests.

Major General Malavet's thoughts and suggestions come from a culmination of his vast, 34 years of experience in the USMC, and in particular, his most recent position as Director for Strategic Planning and Policy (J5 Directorate), U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. In this executive-level position, he designed, built, and produced the foundational blueprint and core elements of an Indo-Pacific Campaign that synthesized US National Strategic Plans and Policy.
